{"id":32193,"date":"2006-07-20T17:36:16","date_gmt":"2006-07-20T21:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prefblog.com\/?p=26"},"modified":"2006-07-20T17:36:16","modified_gmt":"2006-07-20T21:36:16","slug":"index-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/?p=32193","title":{"rendered":"Index Construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The indices reported in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefblog.com\/?cat=3\">Market Action<\/a> category are experimental.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0While the definition of the indices and their composition is expected to be fairly stable, the index levels will change once I have the programming in place to compile historical figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0There are two requirements for inclusion in a reported index,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#AverageTradingValue\">Average Trading Value<\/a> as defined by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\">HIMIPref<\/a> must exceed $25,000 (a daily moving average, with some adjustments to prevent over-estimation), and<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dbrs.com\">DBRS<\/a> rating must be Pfd-2(low) or better<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0The indices have been defined as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ratchet<\/strong> : All <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#RatchetFloatingRate\">Ratchet Rate<\/a> preferred during the period in which they are paying a floating rate<\/li>\n<li><strong>FixedFloater<\/strong> : All <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#FixedFloaters\">Fixed-Floaters<\/a> during their fixed rate period<\/li>\n<li><strong>Floating<\/strong> : all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#FloatingRate\">Floating Rate<\/a> issues paying a set percentage of Canadian Prime, during their floating-rate period<\/li>\n<li><strong>Operating Retractible<\/strong> : all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#Retractible\">Retractible<\/a> issues that have been issued by operating companies and pay dividends<\/li>\n<li><strong>SplitShare<\/strong> : All <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#splitShareCorp\">splitShare<\/a> issues that pay dividends<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interest Bearing<\/strong> : All issues that pay interest, regardless of the type of issuer (note that most are currently split shares and all are considered retractible, but &#8220;Interest Bearing&#8221; trumps)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Perpetual<\/strong> : All <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prefshares.com\/glossary.html#perpetual\">perpetual<\/a> issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--189c73e05a9d06b142c944d8cd613de1--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The indices reported in the Market Action category are experimental. \u00a0While the definition of the indices and their composition is expected to be fairly stable, the index levels will change once I have the programming &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-32193","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-index-construction-and-reporting"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32193","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=32193"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32193\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=32193"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=32193"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/prefblog.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=32193"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
